Isn't this weather glorious!  After weeks of endless cold and rain it's great to finally break open the summer wardrobe again. Our clearance event is now under way so if you need to top up your little fella's shorts and t-shirt collection, now is the perfect time, with some amazing prices on top quality kids clothing brands.

We're heading down to Cornwall in a few weeks to visit Grandparents, and we're keeping everything crossed that this hot spell continues until then. All Alfie (age 5 years) wants to do is play on the beach everyday, so I really hope his wish comes true. So with Alfie's beach holiday dream looking like a possibility here are some of my holiday packing must haves.

This gorgeous little outfit by iDO, will be perfect for playing on the beach, its light weight so will keep Alfie cool and will keep his sensitive skin protected from the suns rays and at just £10.00 in our sale, its a real holiday bargain.

Sunglasses! An absolute must for a sunshine holiday. Currently just £4.00 a pair including FREE UK delivery. Alfie has his eye on the silver pair.

Alfie loves a smart shirt and this funky little shirt by Hadleigh London will be just perfect for a family meal in the village pub. Available in our sale for just £9.00.   He'll team the shirt with these lovely little beige chinos by iDO. Now only £13.00  And just in case the weather does turn a bit nippy we'll pack this casual jacket by iDO now £25.00

Enjoy the sunshine, whilst it lasts and don't forget the sun cream!!

Independents Day

My Kid Brother is an independent retailer, we're a small family run business, trying to make our way in the big business world.  Our friends over at http://allabouttheboysdesignerclothes.blogspot.co.uk/ love to support independent retailers and each month run Independents Day to highlight and celebrate some of the great independent businesses. Please check out this months recommendations.

They also write a superb blog on all things boy related, so if you've got sons this is definitely worth a visit!

Do parents spend less clothing their sons?

It's been suggested to me, by a few people that a boys only store will never be as successful as a girls only store because parents do not spend anywhere near as much clothing their sons as they do their daughters. Is there any truth in this?

As a parent in an all boy family, I have no real idea whether I would have spent more clothing my children if they'd been girls. I'd like to think not.

I've always tried to keep them kitted out in the latest trends, and made sure they've had a good mix of smart clothes for going out (my youngest has a reputation for owning cool party shirts!) along with rough and tumble stuff for playing in.

Being boys they also tend to literally wear their clothes out so there's never been much of the way in hand me downs either. A few bits when they were babies were worth keeping, but once they were mobile, that was it, they took their clothes to their limits. It sure does get expensive after awhile.

So over to you, I'd love to hear from parents of both boys and girls, do you spend more on your daughters? And if you do, what is the reason why?

I'd also welcome comments from boy only families, how do you feel about statements like this?

Many thanks

Kerry

Should boys wear pink?

A couple of weeks ago the My Kid Brother owners got married. We planned a family fun wedding with a pink theme.  All our four boys love to flirt with fashion so we had no reservations completing all the groom's parties outfits with pink waistcoats, cravats and bubblegum pink converse high top boots.  I think they all look fab!

However we've had some interesting reactions to boys wearing pink. Personally I love pink and I think boys look smashing wearing it, this is partly why we stock a number of great pink products, which seem to sell well so I know some of you also love pink for boys.

The most interesting reaction was when Alfie (aged 5years) wore his pink cons to school for non uniform day and was teased by some of the other children for wearing girls shoes. It didn't bother Alfie, he's very confident with who he is and what he likes / dislikes and how this translates into his wardrobe. But, It did start me wondering about whether boys should wear pink or is this colour exclusively for girls? I also think pink is massively overdone for girls and fashion designers should experiment with a few more colours. We'd love to know what you think, is pink off limits to boys? Should boys stick to 'traditional' male colours?

Kit the lads out for less this Summer

If you're anything like me, you love the feeling at the end of a good shopping spree, all those lovely new things to try on, mixing in old favourites to create new outfits and looks. If I've been buying for the kids, then there's the added bonus of the satisfying feeling when they look nicely turned out and a extra burst of pride when other Mums compliment them on their clothes.

I've painted a bit of a rosy picture here, because actually its not always that easy, there are time when as a parent keeping the kids looking presentable is a massive challenge, either because money is tight. When it can prove difficult to keep them looking good, or  when they start to know what they want to wear and certain labels or brands become playground must haves! I've so many tales of the arguments I've had with mine on this (I'll save that for a future blog though!)

Then there's the growth spurt phase,  that's where we are with our five year old, almost overnight and without warning, suddenly nothing fits him. He's my youngest of three, so I should have learnt to anticipate this, but it still catches me out.  I remember one year spring sprung quite by surprise, and my middle son who was three, just about to turn four had to spend a few days with his belly exposed because his t-shirts didn't meet his shorts. Meanwhile I frantically scoured the shops for new outfits for him. Thank goodness it was warm!

So with that in mind and with the recent hint of summer being on it's way have you done your check through their summer wardrobe and worked out what you need to replace?  Learning my lesson I've just done my five year old's and shorts and T-shirts are definitely on my shopping list for him and he needs new pyjamas too.

Making online shopping a social event

It's a well known fact that the majority of women love to shop, and if they can drag a few friends along so much the better! Shopping, browsing, catching up and gossip in one fun filled afternoon, takes a lot of topping. For some of us though, finding those rare hours to devote to the high street (and the girls) is becoming more and more challenging, so its hardly surprising to read that internet shopping is becoming increasingly more popular in the UK.

We've recently introduced a few neat little buttons that can help you consult your friends and share your views on our entire product range, without having to result to cut and paste into your email and clogging up your inbox.  Direct from any of our product pages you can now post directly to a range of social media sites;

Pinterest - Organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use Pinterest’s virtual pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Tumblr - A blogging service that has become the focal point of fashion on the web. Users obsessively post small updates like photos or quotes, follow each others fashion finds, and comment and repost other peoples discoveries.

Fancy - A growing community of people discovering the products they love. Use Fancy to keep track of the things you want to buy, or browse a personal feed of products from across the web, curated and filtered by the people and stores you find interesting.

And if Facebook is your thing, watch out for the little pop ups which ask if you need help making your decisions, click on one of these and they'll help you target Facebook friends who can then vote on whether you should buy or not! (Great if you get  a bit carried away and need someone to blame)

We hope you find these gadgets useful and fun! Do let us know what you think and happy shopping!
